I always thought there was something a little odd about the way Hildebrand sniffs Hellelil's arm in Frederic William Burton's 'The Meeting on the Turret Stairs'. Was he hungry? Did he grow hungrier when he was murdered by Hellelil's brothers? Might he have returned as a zombie after death and happened to encounter Hellelil in the same lonely spot? In my mind, she fights him off; he has already chewed his way through her nasty family. Perhaps at this moment, he remembers her, drops his guard and she prevails. Who knows.
